The Moseley Road Community Conservation Trust (TMRCCT)
TMRCCT was established by a small group of local people aiming to retain, revitalise and maintain the Friends Institute as a community resource for learning, training, health and leisure activities run by the local community, for the benefit of local people and the people of Birmingham. in a way that is sustainable into the future. We are also a charitable, not-for-profit organisation raising money for the work of The Moseley Road Community Conservation Trust

Plans to save and build the building for the community
TMRCCT was incorporated in May 2018 in response to Birmingham City Council Property Services advertising the building for sale in Spring of 2018, in an effort to prevent the immediate sale and to allow more time for wider consultation and consideration of the current and future potential of the building.
Our Objectives

The Objects of TMRCCT are inspired by the original objects of Sir Richard Cadbury when the Friends’ Institute was built as a Friends Meeting Hall and Institute – the Institute being the charitable centre providing leisure and learning activities and support for both the Quaker Friends and local residents in need.
TMRCCT Objects
- To refurbish, restore, maintain and sustain the Friends’ Institute Building, Highgate, Birmingham to be a safe, secure, accommodating community centre to provide: Education, recreation & support.
- To engage and support the residents of the neighbourhood to restore and evolve organically their community centre, manage and sustain it.
- To provide training and learning opportunities related to the restoration, maintenance and management of the Friends Institute Building and activities taking place there.
- To promote and support activities that enhance the health and well-being of local people in relation to themselves and their environment.
Community Charity Shop
TMRCCT has run a Community Charity Shop from the Café Room since July 2018.
Quality donated itens are available to purchase from the shop.
Our focus is to provide a friendly, welcoming space for the community. Conservation and sustainability being at the heart of the cause, the shop enables the group to raise money and create an awareness of the necessity to keep community spaces open for local Birmingham people. The shop is part of a project exploring potential income streams. Associated with the shop are bulk sale, table top events and lunch clubs.
With only a few volunteers and limited time, we draw on the professional expertise from within the group. The initial focus has been establishing the Café Room Shop.
Thanks to regular volunteer support and increasing donations of goods, interest in, and income from the Café Room and Shop has steadily increased. Now regularly providing enough funds to cover operating costs for both the charity shop and the Studio Activity Room.
Please support our project by visiting the shop for sales or by donating your unwanted items.
