SOUND OF MIND is a free community wellbeing programme that uses creative activities to support relaxation, self-confidence, and connection. Hosted at the Friends Institute in Highgate, these sessions are open to anyone aged 18+ looking to engage with their creativity in a welcoming and supportive space.

All sessions are free and drop-in (though registration is welcome), and no prior experience is necessary.

🎹 PLAY THE PIANO: SOCIAL LEARNING GROUP

Every other Thursday | 11am – 1pm
Starting 8th May 2025

This informal music group is for complete beginners, improvers, or anyone who simply wants to reconnect with music in a supportive space. Led by experienced facilitators, you’ll be introduced to piano basics at your own pace, supported to explore melody, rhythm, and creative expression.

Whether you’ve never touched a piano or haven’t played in years, this is a low-pressure space to enjoy music together, build confidence, and unwind.

✍️ SELF-WRITING GROUP: Therapeutic Reading & Writing

Every other Friday | 12:30 – 2:30pm

Led by poet and poetry therapist Hayley Frances, this group blends creative writing with social connection and self-reflection.

Each session includes gentle guided exercises such as journaling, metaphor practice, poetic prompts, and shared reading. No writing experience is needed — just a willingness to show up and be curious.

You can write for yourself, share if you want to, and take part in a circle where your inner world is welcomed.

“Writing in a group gives shape to feelings we often don’t know how to name — it helps us feel more whole.”
— Hayley Frances

🎨 CRAFT ACTIVITIES: Weekly Creative Drop-In

Every Monday | 12pm – 3pm
Starting 12th May 2025

This relaxed drop-in group is perfect for anyone looking to unwind, explore something new, or meet like-minded people through making. Activities include collage, painting, simple sculpture, creative upcycling, and seasonal crafts.

You don’t need any previous artistic experience — just come along and enjoy using your hands in a friendly, no-pressure environment. Ideal for those managing stress or low mood, or anyone who wants to get back into making again.
